Justice & Compassion
We believe the gospel is not only about proclamation but also
about demonstration in terms of bringing restoration, reconciliation, justice and
compassion "to earth as it is in heaven." The following are examples of
how we are seeking to accomplish this.
Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas
Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around
the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love.
This program of Samaritan's Purse provides an opportunity for people of all
ages to be involved in a simple, hands—on missions project while focusing on
the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus Christ. www.samaritanspurse.ca.
Thanks to all who contributed
a shoebox to OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD at Christmas 2009. We collected 576 boxes
in total for this worthwhile project of Samaritan’s Purse.
Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre
Formula 4 Hope Baby Bottle Campaign
Each Mother’s Day, we make baby bottles
available for each family to collect change in support of the Calgary
Pregnancy Care Centre until Father’s Day.
Love in Action
A ministry of HRAC where we serve people with tangible
needs in our larger community. Often this ministry serves under the
banner of our local Salvation Army.
Take It Or Leave It Free Clothing Drive & Give-Away
For the past 2 years we've hosted a free clothing drive
and give-away for our community in the latter part of the summer.
Turn on the Tap
In October of 2007, HRAC seeded
several thousand dollars to our small groups in order for them to multiply - through creative
fund raising projects - and support Samaritan's Purse's
Turn on the Tap
project. This project seeks to bring clean drinking water to
thousands of people around the world, thus helping break the vicious cycle
of poverty.
Compassion Canada
Child sponsorship focuses on helping the most vulnerable
members of society — children. It provides opportunities that are simply not
available to most of the world's poorest children, such as schooling, health
care, social benefits and Christian discipleship.
World Vision HopeChild Sponsorship
AIDS is more than a pandemic. It is the greatest
humanitarian crisis of all time. More than 40 million people are infected
with the virus.
A HopeChild lives in an area with a high prevalence of
HIV, has been identified by his or her community as "vulnerable," and
requires extra assistance. This does not mean that the sponsored child has
HIV. HopeChild sponsorship provides things like:
- basic health care as well as HIV and AIDS treatment
- access to schooling as well as HIV and AIDS
prevention education
- nutritious food and clean water
- care for orphans and vulnerable children
- training of volunteers to look after children's
emotional, physical, and spiritual needs
Opportunity International
Opportunity International heeds
Christ’s call to serve the poor by providing opportunities for impoverished
people to transform their lives through micro-enterprise
development — providing small business loans and training so people can work
out of poverty with dignity. This strategy demonstrates that God’s concern
for the poor is not just to meet their economic needs, but to empower them
to meet their own needs.
